Microneedling Q & A
What is micro-needling?
At Balcones Dermatology and Aesthetics, our aesthetician uses the MicroPen® EVO by Eclipse International, a Microneedling device that is cleared by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration), to improve the appearance of your skin. This innovative device uses automated micro-needling, sometimes called collagen induction therapy (CIT).
This FDA-approved technique is safe for all skin types and can improve the appearance of:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Acne and traumatic scars
Stretch marks
Dark spots
Melasma
How does micro-needling work?
When you see our licensed medical aesthetician for skin rejuvenation, she creates a personalized treatment plan to address your skincare needs. Depending on your specific goals and issues, she may recommend micro-needling.
During your microneedling procedure, our highly qualified aesthetician uses a sterile cartridge containing tiny micro-points that are attached to the Eclipse MicroPen® EVO. Your skincare professional will apply sterile saline to your skin and select the appropriate pen position based on your individual needs. In a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. Many patients report that the feeling of the Eclipse MicroPen® EVO on their skin is like that of sandpaper being moved across the skin.
As part of this healing, the body naturally breaks down dark spots — including those from pigmentation and scarring — and promotes an increase in collagen production. This improves your skin’s tone and texture with little downtime.
In some cases, we may recommend using a serum before micro-needling treatment. This can promote your skin’s healing and enhance the effectiveness of the procedure. Several topical options are available with Microneedling, including, Platelet-Rich Plasma, or a customized chemical peel to be applied over the open micro-channels.
When you want to improve the appearance of your skin, consider micro-needling at Balcones Dermatology and Aesthetics. Call to schedule your appointment or book online.
